A Natural Speed Reading Program Anyone Can Try

by Vic Hurlstorm on August 31, 2009

Speed reading is simply a test of how fast you process text based information, and also how well you understand what you have read. Regular practise will improve your memory too, not just your reading capacity. By following a speed reading program lots of information can be stored quickly in the mind, which will be of benefit to those of the older generation and younger generation alike.

A speed reading program should be created when starting out and can easily be fitted around your daily routine. Keep in mind that short bursts multiple times a day are most successful and efficient. For example just fifteen minutes per day is better than doing it in one block every couple of days. Most people find they are more alert and learn best in the morning time, so this is probably the best time to practice.

Getting a friend or relative involved is the best way to succeed when beginning to speed read. If you do this you will see an early improvement in your reading ability and you will be more confident to push on and continue. Test each another to see who is the fastest. A little competition will help you to push yourself.

The best way you should start is by scan reading documents as fast as you can. Non fiction texts are a lot easier for testing you against, and if it is a subject you are actually interested in then you will be more motivated. The first and last sentences in paragraphs are most effective, so focus on these most. Then get a friend to test you (or do it yourself if you can't find someone all the time) to see how much information you took in and remember. If you are practicing on your own you should check yourself by writing the info down that you remember and then checking it.

If you also supplement your efforts with subliminal messages then your speed reading program will be enhanced. This is effective as your ability to manage large amounts of writing is increased allowing you not to rely on the need to see every letter in a word which allows you to read at a faster pace. A speed reading cd will really help boost your learning rate and help you to learn to speed read properly, more efficiently, and quicker.
