What are the standards to say that one is a good manager? Being a manager can be an easy job but can also be a frustrating job.

If you want to master the excellent managerial skills, you have to avoid the common mistakes committed by a manager. It is not advisable for a good manager to be too much focused on details.

Being too detail-oriented can make you inefficient as a leader and you can also frustrate your staff. By being too much detail-oriented you burn more time and your staff will think that you do not trust their work.

Another common pitfall that you should avoid as a manager is wanting to be liked instead of getting the respect of your people. There is a huge difference between being liked and building respect.

A popular leader may not have the power to influence their group but a respected one is more effective. Managers also fall into the mistake of following the rules instead of being results-oriented.

Sometimes there is a need to questions rules and why they should be followed. A good manager should set their minds on the what of things rather than on the how.

Assuming that your employees know everything that is happening in your company is not a good quality of a good manager. As a manager, you are task to build the bride between the rank and file employees and the upper management.

One good management skill of a manager is to create an effective communication medium between the management and the staff. Sometimes, people given the privilege of being a manager become arrogant.

To become a good manager, you should always keep your feet flat on the ground. Efficiency and productivity can best be assured if you will make your staff partners instead of subordinates.

One of the most difficult aspects of being a good manager is resolving conflicts and addressing problems. Sometimes you cannot avoid being in a difficult situation.

You should be objective rather than being judgmental in resolving conflicts or reaching a decision to a problem. Finally, it brings more harm if you keep all the burdens by yourself.

Remember that building an efficient and self-sufficient team is the essence of responsibility. Through this manner, the trust and respect of your staff and even the management will be bestowed upon you.

For some people managing a department or unit can be challenging which is why they avoid getting a management position. Developing management skills can be acquired through training or experience.
